LIGHTNING RELEASES — MIAMI, FLORIDA — October 23, 2014 — American Business Continuity Domes, Inc. (“ABC Domes”) and Dome Technology, the U.S.-based alliance that engineers, develops and builds disaster-resistant, steel-reinforced concrete domes, have completed the first of three Fukushima Flex storage facilities for Dominion Generation at their North Anna Power Station in Louisa County, Virginia.
The 10,387 square foot dome is 120’ in diameter, 38’ tall and features two hardened equipment doors. The dome was commissioned by Dominion in September of 2013 in accordance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) response to the Fukushima Daiichi incident in Japan. The agency issued an order with specific requirements for mitigation strategies for beyond-design basis external events.
The dome was engineered by Engineering System Solutions (ES2), under the supervision of Dominion’s engineering team. Designed to rigorous specifications, the dome will withstand 360 mph winds, event driven missiles and seismic forces.
