Citigroup, Inc (NYSE: C) disclosed on Monday that its iOS application for the iPhone and iPod Touch has been saving customer information in files on users’ smart phones and personal computers.
“We have no reason to believe that our customers’ personal information has been accessed or used inappropriately by anyone,” said spokeswoman Natalie Riper in a statement. “There has been no data breach.”
The application, “Citi Mobile”, allows U.S. Citibank customers access their checking account and credit card balances and activity, pay bills, transfer money and find nearby ATMs. The application was inadvertently logging account numbers, bill payment data and other information.
The company said that its other mobile applications do not suffer from the same problem.
