Citibank’s (NYSE: C) Japanese unit will be opening two new branches in suburbs of Tokyo on April 12th which will introduce the idea of “smart banking” to the country.
The branches which will open next week are full-service smart banking branches in the company’s global network. The concept of smart banking, which was developer in Japan, is designed to give the company’s customers a customized products, services and information specifically targeted to each client.
Citibank Japan is also planning on opening a number of new smart banking branches in the country within the next 12 months, bringing the total number of retail banking branches it has in the country to 35.
Citi is hoping to provide a new style of retail banking to the Japanese market. Consumers will have the choice of using the branches’ technology, which will include interactive touch panels and video conferencing, or receiving full-service banking from the branch’s staff in private consulting rooms.
