Bank Of America (NYSE: BAC) Names New Chief Administration Officer, Alters Title

Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) announced Thursday its replacement for retiring Chief Administration Officer J. Steele Alphin.  The bank named Andrea Smith as his replacement, changing the official title of the position to global human resources executive.

Alphin announced he is retiring following 33 years of service with Bank of America.  Though the change is effective immediately, Aplhin does plans to stay on-board for a transition period.  Smith, 42, joined Bank of America in 1988 and has held several posts, generally in the Global Human Resources division.

Most recently, Smith served as the senior human resources executive for Global Banking and Markets, Global Commercial Banking, Global Wealth Management and Global Technology and Operations.

“Andrea brings an impressive combination of leadership, experience and business acumen to this assignment,” said Brian T. Moynihan, Bank of America chief executive officer and president.

Smith will report directly to Moynihan and be based out of the bank’s Charlotte, NC headquarters.

“In addition to being a strategic advisor to me, the management team and senior executives in every line of business, she also is a leader in creating our culture of diversity and inclusiveness, so vital to building a global team of associates.  Andrea is the right person to lead the important work of attracting, developing and retaining talent for Bank of America,” added Moynihan.

There have been several changes at the executive level since Moynihan took the helm in the new year.  In January, Chief Risk Officer Greg Curl, who served under former chief executive Ken Lewis, stepped down and took an untitled senior management role.  That was followed by CFO Joe Price being moved into a different role, now heading Bank of America’s consumer bank operations.

However, Moynihan did announce in January when he stepped in as CEO that a management shakeup was in the cards.
