Citigroup (NYSE: C) announced on Friday that it will donate $2 million to the relief effort in Haiti following Tuesday’s earthquake.
The New York-based bank said it will give $250,000 to the American Red Cross that can be used for immediate relief. The company said that the rest will be donated to local partners for reconstruction efforts. The company also stated that it will be opening a fund in which employees can donate.
In a statement, Citigroup said that it has a partnership with the Pan American Development Foundation, which stockpiles supplies and sends them in response to crises in Latin America and the Carribean. The company said that Citigroup and the foundation have deployed supplies to Haiti.
Citigroup has been doing business in Haiti since 1971.
